Getting started

Install PineTune, connect it to a TradingView chart and finish your first optimization run in a few minutes.

PineTune automatically tries combinations of your Pine strategy’s inputs in TradingView’s Strategy Tester, records every metric and ranks the combinations that pass your filters.

Requirements

  • Google Chrome (or another Chromium browser that installs from the Chrome Web Store).
  • The TradingView web chart: https://*.tradingview.com/chart/*. The desktop app is not supported.
  • A Pine strategy (not an indicator) loaded on the chart.

1. Install

  1. Open the PineTune page on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Pin the PineTune icon to the toolbar so it is one click away.
  3. Reload any TradingView chart tab that was already open, so the extension can attach to it.

2. Connect to your chart

  1. Open a TradingView chart and add the strategy you want to tune.
  2. Click the PineTune icon. The status in the header should read Connected.
  3. The strategy name is detected automatically from the Strategy Tester. If several strategies or indicators are on the chart, pick the right one from the dropdown or click Refresh.

PineTune opens the Strategy Tester and switches report pages by itself when it needs to read a metric.

3. Detect inputs

Click Detect inputs. PineTune opens the strategy’s settings dialog, switches to the Inputs tab and lists every input it finds.

  • number inputs can be swept over a range.
  • bool inputs are swept as off / on.
  • option (dropdown) inputs are shown but not swept, fix them in TradingView before the run.

For each input you want to vary, tick its checkbox and fill Start / End / Step: for example 8 / 20 / 2 gives 8, 10, 12 … 20. To test specific values only, type them into Candidates, e.g. 10, 20, 50; candidates override the range.

Choose a search mode and set Max runs. The grey hint below shows how many combinations your settings produce.

5. Objective and filters

Pick what to optimize for (net profit, Sharpe ratio, max drawdown %…) and add filters such as max drawdown % ≤ 20 or min trades ≥ 30. A value of 0 disables a filter.

6. Run

Click Start tuning. While it runs:

  • the settings dialog stays open and PineTune edits input values directly;
  • a progress HUD appears in the bottom-right corner of the chart with pause / stop buttons;
  • you can close the popup. The run continues and results are stored locally.

Don’t click around the chart or the settings dialog during a run; that interferes with input writes and metric reads. Reloading the page stops the run (results so far are kept).

7. Use the results

When the run finishes, the top-ranked passing combination is marked Best.

  • Apply best writes those values back into the strategy.
  • Export CSV downloads every combination with every metric, for Excel or pandas.

Tip: start with a small range to confirm inputs and metrics are read correctly, then scale up.
